49ers' Richard Sherman against boycotting NFL games

The NBA sent a clear message last month that they're sick of systemic racism and police brutality by boycotting games. While this is one way to go about bringing change, Richard Sherman thinks there are better ways to promote equality.

Sherman, a defensive back for the San Francisco 49ers, is against boycotting games. The 32-year-old believes people need to find another solution.

"I don't see how missing a football game is going to keep police from killing black people," Sherman said, according to TMZ Sports. "If you told me that boycotting a National Football League game would stop police brutality and stop the injustices that people of color deal with, then I would be all for it," Sherm said.

"If we miss 10 games, does that stop the problem?" Sherman added. "Does that solve it? Does that get something done? Do we make those kinds of shots? Do we make those kinds of calls? I don't think we do."

While Sherman says he doesn't have a solution yet, he said people need to continue to search for one to eradicate "the root of the problem."

In order to better promote equality, players from the Houston Texans and Kanas City Chiefs linked arms prior to their Week 1 matchup on Thursday to promote a united front and stance on the issue. Teams across the NFL plan to do something similar, and the Minnesota Vikings also plan to recognize the family of George Floyd, among other initiatives, before Sunday's matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Along with the NBA, players across MLB, MLS and the NHL also boycotted games in solidarity with the fight to end racism following the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisc.
