49ers sign CB Jason Verrett to one-year, $5.5M deal
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t Kevin Patra) and ESPN's Nick Wagoner have confirmed that cornerback Jason Verrett has agreed to a one-year deal to run it back with the San Francisco 49ers.
Verrett will earn a base salary of $5.5 million but could receive an additional $1 million if he makes the second Pro Bowl appearance of his career. He last made a Pro Bowl squad in 2015 while playing for what were known as the San Diego Chargers.
Rapoport added that Verrett left a multi-year contract on the table to instead re-sign with San Francisco.
49ers general manager John Lynch announced the transaction via Twitter:
The defensive back, who turns 30 years old in June, suffered a torn Achilles tendon in 2018 and then played only three snaps with San Francisco in 2019 before he was shut down following ankle and knee injuries. However, he played in 13 games last season and recorded two interceptions, seven pass breakups, and a career-best 60 total tackles across a career-high 803 snaps. Per NFL.com, he surrendered a 76.3 passer rating and 8.9 yards per reception in 2020.
