49ers sign safety Kai Nacua to one-year extension

The San Francisco 49ers re-signed another player early into the offseason.

San Francisco confirmed on Thursday that the club signed safety Kai Nacua to a one-year extension. The 25-year-old spent time on the team's practice squad until he was elevated to the active roster for the last five games of the season. He proved to be a reliable special-teams asset, and he also tallied a single defensive tackle.

As Josh Alper wrote for Pro Football Talk, Nacua was set to become an exclusive rights free agent when the new NFL year opens in March.

Nacua played in all 16 regular-season games while with the Cleveland Browns during the 2017 campaign, and he also completed brief stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers and Indianapolis Colts. He broke the news of his re-signing with the 49ers via Twitter on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, the 49ers announced that they had signed quarterback and 2018 first-round draft pick Josh Rosen and running back Austin Walter to one-year extensions. Rosen may be in line to compete for the starting job in the summer depending on what the 49ers do with often-injured starter Jimmy Garoppolo.
