The San Francisco 49ers are visiting with former Indianapolis Colts safety Julian Blackmon on Thursday, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.

Blackmon is one of the top free agents still available and is coming off of a breakout 2023 campaign in which he played 15 games and racked up 88 tackles, four interceptions, a couple of fumble recoveries and eight passes defended.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Utah, was selected by the Colts in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie year, finishing with 42 tackles, a pair of picks, a forced fumble and six passes defended.

Injuries then limited Blackmon to just six games in 2021, and during his time on the field that season, he totaled 34 tackles and a forced fumble. He went on to participate in 14 games the following year, registering 50 tackles, a sack, an interception, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown.

Schultz says that Blackmon has “several suitors” at the moment, which does not come as a surprise given his age and the year he just had.

However, it’s entirely possible that Blackmon is seeking a rather lucrative multi-year deal, which would explain why he is still on the market this deep into free agency.

The 49ers have already made one key addition to their defense this offseason, signing edge rusher Leonard Floyd. Of course, they also released defensive lineman Arik Armstead, so it’s not like they didn’t lose anyone.

Still, if San Francisco is able to add Blackmon to its secondary, it would be a significant coup for a defense that is already one of the best in the league.
