A Super Bowl LVII storyline you may not have heard of

Super Bowl LVII has dozens of great storylines.

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid vs. his former team, the Eagles. Jason Kelce vs. his brother Travis. The first time that two Black quarterbacks will play against each other as Super Bowl starters.

And there's a great under-the-radar storyline, too: Reid vs. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.

In early 2013, shortly after he became Chiefs head coach, Reid cleaned house in Kansas City. Every coach on the team was replaced with his handpicked selections. Wide receivers coach Sirianni was part of the housecleaning.

After Sirianni was given his walking papers, he ended up with the Chargers in San Diego, where he befriended Frank Reich.

After Reich left the Eagles to become Indianapolis HC, he hired Sirianni as offensive coordinator. From there, the coaching phenom was hired by Philadelphia as its head coach, and the rest is history.

Since firing Sirianni, Reid has had nice things to say about the second-year head coach.

“When I came here, I was told Nick Sirianni — this guy is really a special coach. Really, a good football coach,” Reid told reporters recently (h/t: Pro Football Talk). “But I had David [Culley]. David was my assistant head coach and he’d been with me for 14 years and so he was coming with me. And I had to make that determination to keep Nick or not."

If Reid had kept Sirianni, he may not have met Reich or landed the Eagles gig. And who knows if the Eagles would be playing in Super Bowl LVII?
