The Green Bay Packers’ passing game is improving weekly in the regular season. Their Week 1 struggles against the Minnesota Vikings feel like, well, a month ago.  Aaron Rodgers is starting to build trust with the young corps he had issues with in training camp. In Week 4, Rodgers slung the ball around in a balanced attack where he targeted rookie receiver Romeo Doubs and the veteran Allen Lazard alike.

Rodgers isn’t satisfied with the team’s makeup on offense yet. The quarterback went on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday and advocated for more playing time  for veteran wide receiver Randall Cobb. Cobb had three catches for 42 yards against the New England Patriots in Week 4. Rodgers thinks the Packers can get Cobb involved more.

“I really feel like he needs some more playing time, Rodgers said. He’s made plays in every game that he’s played…I think he needs more opportunities for sure. I mean, he’s earned them. Big kudos to him, though. He figured out how to get his body back. He’s stayed healthy so far, but he went through the entire offseason program, OTAs, busted his [butt] and earned the opportunity he’s gotten and probably more. So I look forward to some more snaps for him because every time he’s out there, he’s making explosive gains.”

Pro Football Focus ranks Cobb as the Packers’ best receiver this season. Cobb has been utilized on 77 passing snaps so far. That puts him well behind Lazard and Doubs, who have 98 and 96 passing snaps, respectively. It appears Rodgers is signaling to the Packers coaching staff that Cobbs needs to get more reps in the future. And with his current efficiency being what it is, Rodgers is probably right.
