Aaron Rodgers downplays talk of uncertain future with Packers

Aaron Rodgers is downplaying rumors that he wants out of Green Bay, saying that his comments after the Packers' loss to the Buccaneers in the NFC Championship Game were about him being comfortable not being in complete control of his future.

While appearing on "The Pat McAfee Show," the 37-year-old was asked about his post-game comments after he said that his future was "uncertain" despite still having three years left on his contract. Rodgers said that people were reading too much into it, and he expects to be back with the team. However, he's learned to accept that anything can happen in the NFL.

"I don't feel like I said anything that I hadn't said before..." Rodgers explained. "It was just more of a realization I think that ultimately my future is not necessarily in my control... Obviously after the season I had, potentially winning MVP and we obviously made another good run, I don’t think that there’s any reason why I wouldn’t be back. But there’s not many absolutes in this business. To make an absolute statement about something that is not an absolute, I didn’t do it."

Rodgers' statement should be a relief to Packers fans who may have been worried about losing their franchise quarterback. Packers CEO Mark Murphy also made sure to shut down potential trade rumors, saying that the team has no intention of letting their best player go anywhere this offseason.

"We're not idiots. Aaron Rodgers will be back. He's our leader," Murphy said.
