Aaron Rodgers expected to sit out Packers' preseason

You didn't really think that Aaron Rodgers' arrival at Packers training camp signaled the end of him making headlines, did you?

Tuesday gave us more Rodgers news as Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur told the media the reigning league MVP will likely sit out the entire preseason, opening the door for 2020 first-round draft pick Jordan Love.

To be fair, Rodgers hasn't played more than one series in a preseason game since 2015 -- most starting QBs don't see much preseason action in general. Plus, Love didn't take a single snap as a rookie, so this is an opportune time to get him tuned up for NFL action. 

But given the eventful offseason the team is coming off of, it's no surprise news of Rodgers posting up on the sidelines is grabbing headlines.

While the seasoned starting quarterback has maintained he has a good working relationship with Love and LaFleur, his rapport with general manager Brian Gutekunst appears to still be fractured at best following a drama-filled offseason. 

"Relationships aren't formed in a matter of a couple days," Rodgers cryptically commented a week ago. "There's time where the respect grows and the communication follows. I think the greatest relationships that you have with your friends and loved ones involved conversation and flow... It's all about wanting to have those conversations and wanting to be in (a conversation) like that, and we've had a couple conversations and they've been positive conversations."

LaFleur said Love will play the majority of the preseason opener Saturday against the Houston Texans, with UVA product Kurt Benkert finishing up the game under center.
