Aaron Rodgers is opening up about his abrupt exit from the New York Jets, airing his displeasure at how head coach Aaron Glenn handled their final meeting -- and earning some backlash in the process.

Rodgers spoke out on his release during Thursday's episode of "The Pat McAfee Show" on ESPN. The former league MVP revealed that the pair had only a brief, awkward meeting where Glenn asked Rodgers if he was sure he wanted to keep playing football in the NFL.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested,” Rodgers said. “And [Glenn] said, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.’”

“And I said -- well, I was kind of shocked. Not shocked because I didn’t think that was a possibility. Listen, if they want to move on it’s fine. But shocked because I just flew across country and you could have told me this on the phone if we’re not even going to have a conversation."

Many fans did not side with Rodgers, however. After his remarks, many took to social media to chide the former Jets quarterback for the drama he brought to the team.

"Aaron Rodgers showing his true colors and revealing why letting him go was always the obvious move," a fan posted on X. "Someone in the organization finally stands up to him instead of kissing the ground he walks on and he throws a fit after winning 5 games and throwing for 6.7 Y/A. New era."

"Aaron Rodgers simultaneously does NOT care what anyone else thinks about him, while also caring deeply about what other people think about him," one fan shared in a post on X.

Others pointed out that Rodgers seemed to be accusing the Jets of the same thing he was doing to the team.

"Aaron Rodgers mad someone wasted his time is all time comedy and lack of self-awareness," another shared on X
