Will Aaron Rodgers finish out his current contract and career with the Packers? Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers were able to successfully transition from one Hall of Fame quarterback to a future Hall of Famer. As Aaron Rodgers nears the twilight of his career, he could potentially be playing on his final contract with the Packers.

In The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman recent Packers mailbag, he said he thinks this is Rodgers' last contract in Green Bay and the organization will move on from him after the 2023 season.

Given the team’s desire to find Rodgers’ successor, he also wouldn’t be surprised if the Packers spend a first-round pick on a quarterback next year. If the Packers decide to explore finding Rodgers’ heir this offseason, Schneidman notes that the team could look into trading for Josh Rosen.

The 36-year-old Rodgers has shown signs of decline in recent years. While he posted a 26-4 TD-INT ratio in 2019, his 95.4 quarterback rating was his lowest since 2015 and he completed just 57.1% of his passes in December. However, he could be in position to return to his excellent form next year if the Packers add an impact receiver this offseason.

Rodgers is still expected to finish out the remaining four years on his contract, which won’t expire until he is 40 in 2023. So, fortunately for Green Bay fans, this team’s window of contention remains open.
