Aaron Rodgers, Packers rumored to be in 'early' discussions

The Aaron Rodgers offseason soap opera is still in full swing.

The Green Bay Packers and the disgruntled starting quarterback are in the "early" stages of discussions although nothing "substantial" has happened yet. The news was reported by ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler. (h/t Bleacher Report.)

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported back in April the 16-year veteran QB and three-time league MVP told people within the Packers organization he was unhappy with the team. In May, he revealed in a "SportsCenter" interview his issues are with the team's current culture.

"It's just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go," he said. "It's about character, it's about culture, it's about doing things the right way."

The saga between Rodgers and the Packers has been ongoing, fueled most recently by the QB's stint hosting "Jeopardy!" and by Instagram posts of his lavish vacations with fiancée Shailene Woodley. Then, when it seemed Rodgers' stay in Wisconsin was completely over, a report surfaced he had renewed his golf membership at the Green Bay Country Club.

There was also speculation Rodgers was unhappy with the Packers because they drafted young quarterback Jordan Love in the 2020 draft, but he dismissed that idea.

"With my situation -- look, it's never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan," Rodgers said back in May. "I love Jordan; he's a great kid. (We've had) a lot of fun to work together. Love the coaching staff, love my teammates, love the fan base in Green Bay. An incredible 16 years."

Rodgers, 37, has played his entire career in Green Bay and took the team to one Super Bowl. He led the Packers to a 13-3 record in 2020 and had a strong playoff run before being booted in the NFC championship game by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
