Aaron Rodgers puts support behind Jordan Love on way out
It was the interview everyone apparently wanted to see. Pat McAfee likely had his best streaming numbers in months, if not ever and Aaron Rodgers broke the news (himself) that the NFL world had been waiting for.
He said it wasn't an announcement day, but he did announce his desire to leave the Green Bay Packers and be traded to the New York Jets.
Rodgers claimed he wasn't the one holding up that deal and that the Packers are the ones being a bit stingy, trying to squeeze out as much compensation as they can in return for the four-time MVP.
Rodgers explained his grievances with the Green Bay front office while at the same time making very clear that he loved the city, the fans, and the overall experience of being the Packers' quarterback for the last 18 season.
He also spoke highly about the quarterback who is expected to replace him, Jordan Love:
We haven't seen much of Love ever since he was drafted No. 26 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, and the times he has played have been up and down affairs.
Still, all the sentiments coming out of Green Bay are that the young quarterback has made huge strides this past season.
Keep in mind, Rodgers was banged up for much of the season, so Love did get many of the first team reps in practice, and he showed out when he had a chance to come in for an injured Rodgers against the eventual NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles.
With all that said, Love is still a mystery (pun intended), but Packers fans have to be feeling pretty good about the fact that he's earned the endorsement of the future Hall of Famer.
Now all he has to do is live up to the expectations of a fanbase that watched one Hall of Famer (Rodgers) replace another (Brett Favre).
