Aaron Rodgers reportedly declined lucrative two-year extension from Packers

They say money buys happiness. But clearly, Aaron Rodgers isn't buying that.

Sources have told ESPN NFL senior insider Adam Schefter the Green Bay Packers offered the reigning league MVP a two-year contract extension that would have made him the highest-paid player in the NFL, but Rodgers declined it.

The news comes just a couple of days before NFL training camps open. While it would seem uncharacteristic for Rodgers, 37, to miss the start of camp, he already skipped offseason OTAs for the first time in his career.

This is all just the latest development in the ongoing offseason saga between Green Bay and its unhappy superstar quarterback. Rodgers made it clear he has issues with Green Bay's front office and the current team culture, and the Packers made it clear they don't want to trade him.

There has been speculation Rodgers is mostly upset Green Bay didn't keep him in the loop about drafting rookie quarterback Jordan Love in 2020, but Rodgers himself has remained mercurial on the subject.

"With my situation, look, it's never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan," Rodgers told SportsCenter back in May. "I love Jordan, he's a great kid... Love the coaching staff, love my teammates, love the fan base in Green Bay. An incredible 16 years. It's just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go. It's about character, it's about culture, it's about doing things the right way."

The Packers open up training camp for the 2021 season on July 28.
