Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (12) plans to retire following the season. Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The question for every Packers fan this season has been, how long will Aaron Rodgers play? While Rodgers has not avoided any questions about retirement, he has also not been extremely clear. He has said he is not going to play as long as Tom Brady but Brady is an anomaly. However, some news today may have shed some light on the situation. Aaron Rodgers’ retirement plans may have just been revealed.

Aaron Rodgers retirement plans revealed

Michael Balko tweeted out that he has spoken with many people in the Packers organization about Rodgers’ retirement. He said that Rodgers “made it clear” that this was his last season in the NFL. If this is true, this is massive news for the Packers. There was some hope with his new contract that he would stick around for at least a couple of years but the organization is preparing for him to retire after 2022. This puts more urgency on winning another Super Bowl with a Hall of Fame quarterback like Rodgers.

Implications of Rodgers’ retirement

There are many implications if Rodgers decides to hang it up after this season. There is the financial side of it but mostly, we would finally get to see the start of the Jordan Love era. There are subtle signs pointing to this being true. Rodgers is being much more adamant on getting certain guys involved. He has been vocal about free agents he wants to bring in. Basically, he seems to know that the end is near and wants the best team possible to try and win one more.

Could he change his mind?

Of course he could change his mind. Rodgers is not a predictable person. It all depends on how this season goes and how frustrating it is for him. If the joy of the game starts to go away, I think he will hang it up and move onto his next venture. If the team hits a stride and he finds himself falling in love with the next generation of receivers, he might end up staying. Aaron Rodgers retirement plans possibly being revealed puts this season in a new light.

After a rough week, this was not the news that Packers fans wanted to hear. However, this season is far from over. Rodgers’ retirement is something to worry about once the season is over. For now, we look to righting the ship for this season and hope the Packers and Aaron Rodgers can make another deep playoff run.
