Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is back with the team leading up to the start of the 2021 NFL season after an offseason filled with drama.
The reigning NFL MVP remained away from Packers’ offseason activities while contemplating his future with the team. At one point during the spring, reports broke that Rodgers requested a trade from the Packers. He was unhappy about the direction of the organization and the selection of Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
In talking about his mentality during this time, Rodgers surprisingly noted that he kept Love in the loop and remained in contact with the young quarterback.
“I reached out a number of times to check on him and see how he’s doing. I didn’t hold things from him. I let him know where I was at mentally and what I was thinking about, and hopefully he appreciated that,” Aaron Rodgers told ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “I just felt that’s what I would want in that situation, just to hear from the guy. And also, there’s a love and an appreciation and a friendship there, just like it was with me and Brett (Favre). So I wanted to make sure I checked in with him and let him know I was thinking about him.”

This has to be considered a bit surprising in the grand scheme of things. It also shows us just how much of a professional Aaron Rodgers is. While he was upset that Green Bay traded up for Love, the future Hall of Famer is not holding that against his younger counterpart. He’s not taking it personal.

By virtue of the restructured contract Rodgers signed with Green Bay back in July, the 2023 season has been voided. There also appears to be a handshake agreement between the two sides that Rodgers can decide on where he plays following the 2021 campaign.
At least for the short term, this happy medium between the two sides. It also sets up a proverbial last dance for Rodgers in Green Bay as he enters his 17th season with the organization.

Rodgers, 37, was absolutely dominant for Green Bay last season. He led the NFL in completion percentage (70.7), passing touchdowns (48) and quarterback rating (121.5) while throwing a mere five interceptions.
