The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, although it was a bit later than many expected it to be. The Steelers took Ohio State's Will Howard with the 185th pick in the sixth round, and the team feels they got a steal. Tomlin talked a bit about the 23-year-old quarterback in his post-draft press conference, and what made the Steelers want to take a chance on him.

"I think like a lot of people, how he responded to that adversity at the end of their regular season and the leadership and playmaking that he displayed throughout the playoffs was really attractive," Tomlin said. "And it's really what NFL football is about. There's going to be some adversity. How you respond to it defines you and your football team, particularly from the quarterback position."

In just one season at Ohio State, Howard led the team to a spectacular 14-2 record, and a national championship by the end of the season. He finished the year with 4,010 passing yards and 35 touchdowns, both of which led the Big Ten.

He immediately slots in as a competitor behind Mason Rudolph as the Steelers' QB2 since the team has not gotten Rodgers to sign on the dotted line yet.

Oh, and how's that going?

As things stand right now, the Steelers quarterback room consists of Rudolph, Howard, and Skylar Thompson.

"They still have a feeling of confidence that Aaron Rodgers is going to wind up in Pittsburgh," ESPN's Adam Schefter said of the Steelers. "That could have contributed to their decision to bypass a quarterback in this draft."
