Las Vegas Aces guard Kelsey Plum and NFL tight end Darren Waller have jointly filed for divorce, court documents revealed Tuesday. The filing, made in Clark County, Nevada, marks a sudden end to their brief marriage, which began just last year.

The couple, who became a familiar duo in the Las Vegas sports scene, submitted their divorce petition April 23. The development comes just after Waller’s relocation to the New York Giants, having previously played for the Las Vegas Raiders.

In a heartfelt post on social media, Plum expressed her emotional reaction over the separation.

“I’m devastated. I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it’s time to go,” she said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day.”

The basketball star also shared words of gratitude and resilience: “God has given me an incredible life, and I’m truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends,” she added. “Today and every day I will continue to choose joy. Much love, KP.”

Plum also referenced a Bible verse, Philippians 1:6, at the end of her statement. The verse states, “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

Plum, a two-time WNBA champion, and Waller, who recently hinted at a possible early retirement from football, had been a celebrated couple in sports circles. They reportedly dated for about a year before marrying on March 4, 2023. Their wedding came after a quick courtship.

Waller’s trade to the Giants occurred shortly after their wedding, a change that brought significant geographical and professional shifts into their relationship. Just weeks before their divorce proceedings, Waller expressed uncertainty about continuing his football career.

“I’m at the point now where I’m like, ‘Is this something that I want to continue to invest my time, invest my body, invest my mind in?'” Waller previously said, via PEOPLE.

As Plum prepares for the upcoming WNBA season and her involvement with Team USA in the Paris Summer Olympics, her focus appears to be on her career during these personal challenges.
