Adam Gase on Jamal Adams: 'We want guys who want to be here'

The New York Jets traded away one of their brightest young stars over the weekend, sending All-Pro safety Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a slew of picks, including two first-rounders.

Since the trade was announced, fans have wondered how Jets coach Adam Gase feels about the trade. After all, Adams was not exactly silent about his negative feelings about Gase, saying that he does not trust him as a leader. When asked about the trade, Gase provided a matter-of-fact answer that gave little insight into the relationship between him and his former safety.

"We want guys who want to be here. Obviously, he didn't want to be here anymore, so the decision was made to move on," Gase told NFL Network. "It's a team game."

We may never fully know what went on between Adams and the team, but from Gase's perspective, it makes sense to not want a player who does not want to be coached by you. And while he's unlikely to be sending Adams a Christmas card this year, he did offer some well wishes for the safety in his new home.

"We wish [Jamal Adams] nothing but the best," Gase said. "We want nothing but the best for him. Hopefully, he has great success in Seattle."

As for Adams, he just seems excited about the chance at a fresh start, telling Seahawks fans that they have added "a man all in on winning a Super Bowl" to their roster.
