Adam Schefter debunks L’Jarius Sneed-to-Colts speculation

Despite a report to the contrary, ESPN’s Adam Schefter put an end to the speculation that the Kansas City Chiefs were close to trading star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Indianapolis Colts.

On Saturday, Destin Adams of A to Z Sports tweeted the Colts and Chiefs were finalizing a deal for the 27-year-old cornerback in which Indy was sending KC a 2024 third-round pick plus an addition 2025 pick — news that Schefter has since said is not accurate.

“The two sides haven’t had any conversations, the Chiefs and Colts,” Schefter said during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday. “One-hundred percent not happening. Now, could that change? Sure. But no, that’s not happening.”

Despite Schefter’s remarks, Adams doubled down on his original report, stating he was informed the two teams were working on a deal but it ultimately fell apart at the 1-yard line.

Along with the Titans, the Colts were one of the two rumored front-runners to land Sneed, who was franchise-tagged by the Chiefs on March 4.

According to SI.com’s Matt Verderame, a potential trade has been held up by the kind of extension Sneed is looking for. His market value is $16.3 million, per Spotrac, which projects him to sign a four-year, $65.32M extension.

Sneed will make $19.8 million in 2024 playing on the franchise tag unless he signs an extension before mid-July either with the Chiefs or any team that trades for him.

The Chiefs’ reported asking price is a third-round pick. The Titans don’t have their Round 3 selection in next month’s draft after trading it to the Arizona Cardinals during the 2023 draft to move up in the second round and pick quarterback Will Levis. It’s not known if the Chiefs would consider a 2025 third-rounder.
