There is not a robust trade market for Bears quarterback Justin Fields, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Chicago, which holds the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is leaning towards taking USC quarterback Caleb Williams. The former Heisman winner is seen as a franchise changing talent.
However if they select Williams, Fields is out but the Bears could have difficulty moving the former first round pick out of Ohio State.
“The signs continue to point to the Bears taking Caleb Williams at No.1, which means the Bears then will look to move Justin Fields,” Schefter said on SportsCenter. “The Bears’ General Manager Ryan Poles said this week he’d like to have something in place before free agency begins in just under two weeks. And that means that Justin Fields will be on the clock. I don’t think the market is quite as robust as the Bears and Justin Fields would like it to be.”
As far as where Fields could go, that remains entirely up in the air at this point.
“There’s been a lot of speculation on Atlanta,” Schefter said. “I think Atlanta will be something of a surprise right now to trade for Justin Fields. There’s been some conversation about the Pittsburgh Steelers, maybe something can be figured out there.
“The Las Vegas Raiders might have some interest, but there’s not this huge number of teams lined up to trade for Justin Fields as the Bears look to find a home for him before free agency begins in about 10 days.”
Poles may have hinted at what move Chicago will make at the quarterback position on Tuesday after being asked if he’d be motivated to move on from Fields via a trade early ahead of free agency if they do in fact draft a quarterback with the top pick.
“It just depends on what opportunities pop up,” Poles said on Tuesday. “I will say this, I think you guys know me well enough now, if we go down that road I wanna do right by Justin as well. No one wants to live in gray. I know that’s uncomfortable. I wouldn’t wanna be in that situation either. So we’ll gather the information. We’ll move as quickly as possible. We’re not gonna be in a rush. And see what presents itself and what’s best for the organization.”
After starring at Ohio State, Fields has been up and down in three seasons with the Bears. In total, Fields has 6,674 yards, 40 touchdowns, 30 interceptions, a 60.3% completion percentage, 2,220 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.
