After dismissing Bengals offense, Chiefs LB Willie Gay asked for WR Ja'Marr Chase's jersey

Ahead of last week's AFC Championship Game, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay dismissed the Cincinnati Bengals offense. However, that didn't stop Gay from asking Bengals' Pro Bowl wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase for his jersey during the game.

Chase's response to Gay's request went as one might expect. Speaking during a timeout, Gay approached Chase and asked for his No. 1 jersey, to which the wideout quickly responded, "Hell no, hell naw."

Earlier in the week, Gay showed little respect for Chase and the Bengals' offense. When asked what impressed him most about the unit, Gay said, "Nothing." Unsurprisingly, Gay's comment swiftly began to spread through the Bengals' locker room. But Chase didn't take the bait, telling reporters he had "no response" for Gay.

Chase wasn't ineffective in the Bengals' 23-20 title game loss, but the Chiefs' defense kept him mostly under wraps. The 22-year-old caught six of eight targets for 75 yards but failed to find the endzone. Meanwhile, Gay ended the night with one tackle, a quarterback hit, and half a sack in the Chiefs' victory.

Chase will be watching Super Bowl LVII from home two Sundays from now, but Gay's status for the big game is also up in the air. Suffering a shoulder injury in the second half against the Bengals, Gay told reporters on Tuesday he was "optimistic" about being ready for the Super Bowl. The Chiefs listed him as a limited participant in practice on Thursday.
