Alex Guerrero: Bill Belichick treated Tom Brady like a 20-year-old kid, not a 40-year-old man

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady will make his highly anticipated return to Gillette Stadium next weekend to face the New England Patriots. Although that matchup is over a week away, it's still a topic of conversation around the NFL.

Earlier this week, Tom Brady Sr. shared his thoughts on his son's departure from the Patriots. When asked if his son feels vindicated after leading the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl, he responded, "Damn right."

Brady's longtime trainer, Alex Guerrero, also commented on the seven-time Super Bowl champion's time in New England. He claims Patriots head coach Bill Belichick treated Brady like a 20-year-old kid, even when he was in his 30s and 40s. 

"The interesting thing I think there — and this is just me, an outsider looking in — it was like Bill never really … I think his emotions or feelings never evolved with age," Guerrero said, according to the Boston Herald. "I think in time, with Tom, as Tom got into his late 30s or early 40s, I think Bill was still trying to treat him like that 20-year-old kid that he drafted. And all the players, I think, realized Tom was different.

"He's older, so he should be treated differently. And all the players, none of them would have cared that he was treated differently. I think that was such a Bill thing. He never evolved. So you can't treat someone who's in his 40s like they're 20. It doesn't work."

Guerrero has traveled with Brady from New England to Tampa Bay. He said everything about the Buccaneers organization is perfect for the signal-caller at this point in his career.

"This place, we have so much fun here. We have a great time," said Guerrero. "They're great here. Ownership is great. The coaching is great, the management is great."

In New England, Belichick prevented Guerrero from entering the team facility. In Tampa Bay, Guerrero says he's been welcomed at the club's facility and that a lot of Brady's current teammates join him for additional workouts at the TB12 training facility near Raymond James Stadium.

The Buccaneers have made Brady feel like he's on top of the world, which is probably something Belichick should've at least done a little more. It'll be interesting to see how the veteran handles his return to Foxboro next weekend.
