Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes promise Chiefs receiving corps is trending in right direction

Throughout the season, the Kansas City receiving corps has been the team's biggest weakness. However, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid insists it's making headway.

"They're getting better as we go," Reid said in a Thursday news conference. "I know it's hard to see, but they're getting better. We'll just see how it goes moving forward. Anything I say isn't going to mean anything unless they continue to improve [on the field]. But we're seeing improvement. We just got to keep it going."

Rookie WR Rashee Rice has progressed, logging 32 receptions for 378 yards and four TDs. The rest of the unit is thin, though. Aside from Rice, no other Chief has crossed the 30-reception or 300-yard mark. As a result, their offense has lost some firepower, ranking 13th in the NFL in points scored (23.1).

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes claims the stats aren't a major concern, and he'll eventually gel with the WRs.

"I've always felt that throughout the season, the chemistry gets better and better," Mahomes said Thursday. "Obviously, everybody wants the receivers to blow up and everything like that. But I think the guys have gotten better as the season has gone on, and they're getting better. We're making strides in the right direction, and hopefully, we carry that momentum into the playoffs."

In Week 11, the Chiefs (7-2) host the Eagles (8-1) in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII on "Monday Night Football." Kansas City's passing game might gain momentum against Philadelphia, ranked 28th in the NFL in passing yards allowed (257 YPG).

Despite questions about the WR corps, Kansas City is still in a great position. As of Thursday, oddschecker gives the defending champions the best Super Bowl odds (+500).
