Andy Reid still gets excited for the start of football: 'I’m ready to go'

Andy Reid has been coaching in the NFL for a long, long time, but he's still just as excited as a schoolboy putting on shoulder pads for the first time regarding the start of football season.

To put Reid's longevity as an NFL coach in perspective consider this: He's entering his 10th season coaching the Kansas City Chiefs, and KC isn't even his longest coaching stop. Reid coached the Philadelphia Eagles for 14 seasons before heading over to Kansas City.

Then consider the fact that Reid started his NFL career as a tight ends/assistant offensive line coach for the Green Bay Packers all the way back in 1992. Before that, he was an assistant coach in the college ranks. Reid started his college coaching career as a grad assistant at BYU in 1982.

That's 40 years of coaching, but the man they call "Big Red" is still feeling butterflies as the 2022 season approaches.

"I still get to that Fourth of July and all of a sudden the juices start going and you're going 'I can't wait to get back and get this thing going,' so I'm still feeling that," Reid told NFL radio.

Reid also touched on how he tries to stay fresh as a head coach despite the fact that he gets older every year while the roster is continually refreshed with young players.

"It's different personalities that you're talking to but that age group is kind of boxed in. I put my Jordan's on, I put my Air Force 1s on, man I'm ready to go. Let's go," he said.

At the time of this writing, Reid is the fifth-winningest NFL head coach of all-time (233), behind only Don Shula (328), George Halas (318), Bill Belichick (290), and Tom Landry (250).

He truly is a legend.
