Are Raiders ready to spend after restructuring Maxx Crosby's contract?

Raiders DE Maxx Crosby likely restructured his contract because it can boost Las Vegas' roster.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Pro Bowl DE's reworked deal saves the Raiders a little more than $7.5M in cap space. Per Spotrac, Las Vegas has $45.5M in cap space, third-most in the NFL.

More room allows it to solve roster problems, specifically not having a viable starting quarterback and a porous passing defense that ranked 29th in yards allowed last season.

According to NBC Sports' Mike Florio, the Raiders and Texans will aggressively pursue free-agent QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Since Daniel Jones, Geno Smith and former Raiders QB Derek Carr agreed to sign deals, Jimmy G is the top free-agent QB. Consequently, he has a substantial asking price -- $25M annually, per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

"The Raiders will almost certainly add defensive back help and could have some interest in veteran Jordan Poyer," wrote ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Las Vegas could also intrigue Poyer since Nevada has no state income tax.

"I would love to go to a state that doesn't take half of my money," Poyer recently said on his podcast,

The 31-year-old's market value is a three-year deal worth $11M annually, per Spotrac.

Signing Garoppolo and Poyer is now more feasible because Crosby was willing to compromise on his deal and help the team improve.
Despite its 6-11 record last season, Las Vegas has Pro Bowlers in WR Davante Adams and RB Josh Jacobs. Pairing them with notable free agents could help the Raiders rebound into the playoffs.
