New York Giants defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson can finally return to practice, the team announced on Monday. Robinson suffered a season-ending meniscus tear while playing for the Rams last season and started Giants training camp on the physically unable to perform list.

The 28-year-old passed his physical and will now slowly begin working his way into the defense. Despite coming off of injury, Robinson was still able to sign a deal to join the Giants in April. He signed a one-year deal for $5 million. It also includes $3 million in guaranteed money. His last deal with the Rams saw him sign for two years at $17 million.

Robinson was originally a second-round NFL Draft pick out of Alabama for the Detroit Lions. He spent four seasons there before joining the Los Angeles Rams.

In his seven seasons in the NFL, the former Crimson Tide star has logged 269 tackles, seven sacks, an interception and 17 passes defended. His high-water mark came in 2021, when he recorded 58 tackles and two sacks for the Rams.

In 10 games started for the Rams prior to his injury last season, he posted 42 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss.

The Giants signed the defensive end with the hopes that he can help improve the Giants’ run defense with Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams.

Giants take OL Marcus McKethan off of PUP list

Along with Robinson, the Giants also took offensive lineman Marcus McKethan off of the PUP list. McKethan suffered an ACL tear prior to his rookie season. They placed him on IR in early August almost exactly one year ago.

The Giants snagged McKethan with a fifth-round pick (No. 173 overall) in 2022.

Now, defensive lineman D.J. Davidson, cornerback Aaron Robinson and wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson are the only players still on the PUP list. The Giants started training camp with six players on PUP.
