Attorney says NFL agent's alleged 'bribery' during draft was 'playful banter'

The attorney for NFL agent David Canter released a statement on Friday, defending his client's alleged actions during April's NFL Draft.

According to a tweet from Canter on April 30th, players who he represents that were drafted include Chase Brown (Cincinnati Bengals), Clark Phillips (Atlanta Falcons), Derek Parish (Jacksonville Jaguars), Desjuan Johnson (Los Angeles Rams), Jayden Reed (Green Bay Packers), Nathaniel "Tank" Dell (Houston Texans), Sydney Brown (Philadelphia Eagles) and Tuli Tuipulotu (Los Angeles Chargers). Canter and his agency (GSE Football) represented 21 players at the 2023 NFL Draft.

It was reported last week that Canter was being investigated by the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) for allegedly trying to bribe teams to select his clients during the draft. Per an ESPN report, the agent was accused of reaching out to several NFL teams and offering the use of vacation homes that he owned as a part of the effort.

Canter's attorney released the following statement at the time, regarding the allegations.

"We are aware that the NFLPA is looking into communications between my client and various management personnel of certain NFL teams. Mr. Canter did not engage in any wrongdoing and he is fully cooperating with the NFLPA. We expect the situation to be resolved shortly."
