Baker Mayfield: Browns 'moving in silence' ahead of 2020 season

The Cleveland Browns were arguably the most disappointing team of the 2019 NFL season.

Cleveland began the preseason with massive expectations after the club added superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and running back Kareem Hunt to an offense that included Pro Football Writers of America Rookie of the Year quarterback Baker Mayfield, running back Nick Chubb, wide receiver Jarvis Landry and tight end David Njoku.

The Browns dropped six of their first eight contests, though, and first-year head coach Freddie Kitchens was dismissed after Cleveland finished with a 6-10 record.

As documented by ESPN's Jake Trotter, Mayfield spoke with reporters via a video conference ahead of the third training camp of his NFL career, and the 25-year-old signal-caller wants for the Browns to do all of their talking on the field.

"It's just time to work. It's time to do our thing instead of talking about it.

"There's no need to be talking about it. It's just time to go do it. And right now, it's kind of moving in silence, which is fine with me. That's how I used to do it before getting on a bigger stage. So, I'm happy to get back to those roots and, like I said earlier, get back to the fundamentals to where I can accomplish the goals when the season comes around."

Cleveland experienced yet another tumultuous offseason, as the club hired Kevin Stefanski as its next coach and Andrew Berry as general manager and executive vice president of football operations.

All involved with the Browns will be expected to immediately right the ship while sharing the division with reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
