Baker Mayfield is proving to be sharp both on the field and in the media room.

Speaking after the Cleveland Browns’ season finale on Sunday, a 26-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the rookie quarterback called out a reporter for asking a leading question. The reporter, Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland, asked him if he was endorsing the team’s current coaching staff, to which Mayfield replied, “Stop trying to get me to say something, Tony,” per WFNY’s Kyle Kelly.

Though the Browns failed to make the playoffs, Mayfield led them to a very respectable 7-8-1 record this season, a dramatic improvement after they went an abysmal 1-31 over the previous two seasons. Head coach Hue Jackson was fired by the Browns at the end of October, leading to defensive coordinator Gregg Williams filling in as Cleveland’s interim coach for the rest of the year.

The team has already been linked to some big-name coaching candidates, but the endorsement of their franchise quarterback would obviously help signal the direction that they ultimately take their search. Unfortunately though, Mayfield won’t be tipping his hand quite that easily.
