Baker Mayfield: Odell Beckham Jr. 'looks really great' recovering from torn ACL

Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Baker Mayfield spent a portion of Wednesday's mandatory minicamp sessions explaining he's more concerned about winning than signing a potential contract extension ahead of the summer months. He also touched upon the recovery of star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. from the torn ACL he suffered on Oct. 25.

"He looks really great," Mayfield said of Beckham after the two spent time working out in Texas ahead of minicamp, according to Scott Patsko of Cleveland.com. "After seeing him run and really just talking to him, as well, he feels comfortable. He is still getting used to some of these cuts and certain motions, but you are talking about seven months since the surgery so it is pretty impressive how quickly he has come back."

Earlier in the day, ESPN's Jake Trotter noted Mayfield posted the NFL's third-best total QBR from Week 7 to Week 15 last season without Beckham in the lineup. The signal-caller suggested Wednesday Beckham's mere presence on the field can help him develop into a more prolific passer moving forward.

"He is an explosive player," Mayfield added. "I think when it comes to teams scheming up for our offense, he has the dynamic, the deep threat and teams have to roll a safety over the top, whether they want to play one-high or two-high and just all of the things that can exploit matchups and create better opportunities for everybody else and not only himself."

Following Tuesday's practice, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Beckham "looked good to me" but wouldn't confirm the 28-year-old will be a full participant when he's scheduled to report for training camp on July 27. It's hoped Beckham will remain on track to start when Cleveland opens the regular season at the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 12.
