Baker Mayfield working out away from Browns

Baker Mayfield is staying in shape this offseason, and he's doing so far away from the team he's seeking a trade from.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the starting quarterback is working out down in Texas with free-agent wide receivers Cole Beasley and Danny Amendola, as well as Giants wideout Alex Bachman, while he waits for the Cleveland Browns to trade him.

The relationship between Mayfield and the Browns has rapidly dissolved into a full-blown soap opera this offseason, to say the least. What started with reports Cleveland was heading into free agency looking for more offensive weapons for the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner to work with turned into the Browns surprisingly acquiring embattled QB Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans after rejecting Mayfield's request for a trade so he can play elsewhere.

Sure, Mayfield could still potentially start for the Browns. No team appears to want to take on the $18 million he is owed in 2022, and the Browns themselves could be short a signal-caller if — or when — Watson is suspended by the league in the aftermath of the 22 civil lawsuits he faces.

With Mayfield working out so far away from Cleveland, however, it's very difficult to evnision a happy reunion between the two parties.
