The upcoming 2024 Baltimore Ravens offseason is poised to revolve around critical decision-making, particularly in determining which complementary pieces are essential for another championship push and which ones can be released. At the heart of this deliberation lies the versatile linebacker, Kyle Van Noy.

Initially signed with minimal expectations as a transformative asset, Van Noy defied odds by delivering one of his most remarkable statistical seasons at the age of 32. His performance far exceeded his modest contract, proving to be one of Baltimore’s most astute moves of the year.

Securing Van Noy for just over $1 million, the Ravens obtained exceptional value. However, Van Noy has made it unequivocally clear that any future collaboration with the team will demand a commensurate NFL contract, signaling his unwillingness to offer a discount.

With nine sacks and a 52% snap playtime, Van Noy thrived under Mike Macdonald’s defensive scheme, showcasing a resurgence after underwhelming seasons away from Bill Belichick’s system in New England. Given the impending departure of several defensive free agents, retaining Van Noy at a minimum salary is implausible.

Supporters of Van Noy emphasize his exceptional performance and versatility during the previous season. Moreover, the presence of former Ravens linebacker and current defensive coordinator, Zach Orr, could potentially foster an environment conducive to replicating Van Noy’s standout performances alongside Roquan Smith in 2023.

Conversely, detractors argue that other defensive priorities must take precedence over securing Van Noy for another season. Despite the impending free agency of Patrick Queen, the emergence of Trenton Simpson provides a clear succession plan, tempering the urgency to retain Van Noy.

While decisions regarding Justin Madubuike, Patrick Queen, and Jadeveon Clowney remain pending, the Ravens must not overlook Van Noy’s significant contributions during clutch moments last season.
