The Baltimore Ravens released a veteran running back who won the Super Bowl last season as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Ravens made the move a few days before their Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans on Saturday.

The Ravens lost running back J.K. Dobbins for the season due to an Achilles injury in Week 1. The Ravens, who have dealt with several injuries at running back this season, signed veteran running back Melvin Gordon to the active roster on Dec. 19th. Gordon has run the ball 26 times for 81 yards and a touchdown this season.

The Baltimore Ravens waive Gordon

However, the Ravens don’t need Gordon on the 53-man roster after they signed star running back Dalvin Cook to the practice squad in early January. According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, the Ravens waived Gordon on Wednesday.

Should he clear waivers, we’ll see if the Ravens decide to bring Gordon back to the practice squad this week. Gordon was on the practice squad for the Chiefs last season when they won the Super Bowl.

Gordon’s sudden release Wednesday likely means the Ravens are set to sign Cook to the 53-man roster this week.
