The Chicago Bears’ offseason has been tumultuous, setting the stage for what promises to be an intriguing 2024 campaign even before the regular season has begun. As the curtain fell on the previous season, discussions swirled around the quarterback situation, igniting debates among fans and pundits alike. The central question: should the Bears retain Justin Fields or opt for a fresh face at the helm of their offense?

Ultimately, the decision was made to part ways with Fields, sending him to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick, with the potential to escalate to a fourth-rounder contingent on his playing time surpassing 51% of offensive snaps.

Fields, a highly regarded figure among teammates, garnered fond farewells from many within the organization. Tight end Cole Kmet, in particular, expressed his sadness at the departure, revealing that management had consulted him and other close associates of Fields prior to finalizing the trade.

Kmet’s sentiment is underscored by the dynamic partnership he and Fields cultivated over the past three seasons.

Since 2021, Kmet’s statistics reflect the impact of this collaboration, with 183 receptions, 1,875 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns attributed to their on-field synergy. The chemistry they shared off the gridiron seamlessly translated into on-field success, making Kmet a pivotal component of the Bears’ passing game.

Looking ahead to the impending draft, the Bears seem poised to pivot towards USC standout Caleb Williams as their prospective new quarterback. With a rookie signal-caller poised to assume command, skepticism looms large in betting circles. It will also be interesting to see how Justin Fields’ career progresses with the Steelers.

FanDuel Sportsbook, for instance, assigns the Bears the third-highest odds at +350 to clinch the NFC North title, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding their prospects in the upcoming season.
