The Trevis Gipson situation ended with the Bears defensive end leaving town. He wasn't traded.

And the quarterback situation remains in a state of uncertainty after veteran backup Nathan Peterman was waived, joining P.J. Walker as a former Bear.

The Bears trimmed their roster down to the 53-man limit Wednesday and waived Gipson, who had seven sacks for them in 2021. They also waived Peterman, which means undrafted Tyson Bagent is currently No. 2, although coach Matt Eberflus made it clear they could look for a veteran off waivers.

They also waived veteran cornerback Kindle Vildor. Their two seventh-round draft picks failed to make the team, safety Kendall Williamson and defensive tackle Travis Bell.

They also left themselves with only three tight ends as Stephen Carlson and Lachlan Pitts were waived. Cole Kmet, Marcedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan Jr. are the tight ends.

The offensive line is another area in a state of flux because of injuries. They have retained center/guards Cody Whitehair, Lucas Patrick, center Doug Kramerr, guards Teven Jenkins, Nate Davis and Ja' Tyre Carter and tackles Braxton Jones, Darnell Wright and Larry Borom.

The six wide receivers who made the roster are DJ Moore, Chase Claypool, Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool, Tyler Scott and Equanimeous St. Brown.

Only nine defensive linemen were on the roster, as seventh-round defensive tackle Travis Bell missed the cut. Those retained included Rasheem Green, Dominique Robinson, Yannick Ngakoue, Terrell Lewis, Andrew Billings, Justin Jones, Gervon Dexter Jr., Zacch Pickens and DeMarcus Walker.

The waiver process takes 24 hours. They could then add players and cut more.
