With the Chicago Bears in the middle of another subpar season, Bear fans have started calling for head coach Matt Nagy’s job. “Fire Nagy” chants have sprung up from Soldier Field, to the United Center, and even down to the University of Illinois . Nagy has had multiple occasions with the press to defend himself with all the reports coming out about his job status. Now, Bears star safety Eddie Jackson has provided his own comments.
Jackson said, “The fans got to understand that it doesn’t help anything. Y’all want us to play better and do better and that’s not helping.” To the fans, this should come as a little bit of a surprise. It was reported on many occasions that Nagy lost the locker room. While this isn’t a flat out defense of Nagy, it does show some disapproval of the fans trying to speed up the process.
These comments should be taken with a grain of salt. Jackson is here until 2025. He just signed an extension in January 2020. If the team blows it up, the defense will be stripped, and Jackson would likely be one of the last men standing.
It is clear to most experts that Nagy is not the offensive genius he claims to be. While the Bears can remain “in the hunt” most of the year, they will never be Super Bowl contenders with Nagy. Jackson just needs to let the inevitable happen and hope for the best.
