Bears HC Matt Nagy not ready to name starting QB for Lions game

Chicago Bears rookie quarterback and first-round draft pick Justin Fields made his first NFL start last Sunday at the Cleveland Browns as veteran Andy Dalton dealt with a left knee injury, and things didn't go well for the first-year pro. Fields completed just six-of-20 passes for 68 yards, was sacked nine times and left with a hand injury as the Bears fell 26-6.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy said earlier this week that he would consider playing Fields, Dalton and/or backup Nick Foles against the Detroit Lions this Sunday, and he told reporters Wednesday that a healthy Dalton would remain his QB1 if the "Red Rifle" is good to go.

"As far as the depth chart, that has not changed," Nagy explained, according to Kevin Patra of the NFL's website. "As far as injuries, we're still working through that. And that's where for us ... we've got to know exactly where they're at and that's the whole timing element of these next couple days. For us, we've got to make sure that however that goes it's the best thing for the Bears. And when you start getting injuries into it and you bringing injuries into it, it makes it more it difficult."

Nagy has consistently committed to keeping Dalton his starter, and nothing Fields did in Cleveland should change that stance. Both Dalton and Fields are expected to practice this week, but Foles may be the safest option versus Detroit depending on the health of the other two by Friday afternoon.
