Bears icon Jim McMahon: Chicago is 'where quarterbacks go to die'

The Chicago Bears have a spotty track record when it comes to quarterbacks, as the franchise has only landed a handful of solid starters over the last few decades. One of the few solid quarterbacks the team has had is Jim McMahon, who helped the Bears win a Super Bowl in 1986.

But in an interview with 12/52 Sports' FatMike Chicago Sports Show this week, McMahon offered a harsh assessment of Chicago's struggles to land good quarterbacks.

"Chicago has always been known for their defense, right?" McMahon said. "Their defense and their running game. And that's probably all they're ever gonna be known for. I think it's where quarterbacks go to die."

It's tough to disagree with McMahon, as the Bears' quarterback situation has remained mostly a mess in the three decades since McMahon was under center. Last season, both Nick Foles and Mitch Trubisky lost the starting job over the course of the season, barely managing to get the Bears to the postseason despite solid play from the defense.

The Bears are hoping that Andy Dalton can get the offense back on track, having signed the veteran quarterback to a one-year deal this offseason to replace Trubisky and Foles.
