Bears insider believes team could be 'aggressive sellers' at trade deadline

While the Chicago Bears are just one game out of the NFC North lead, the team faces an uphill battle trying to unseat the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings in the NFC playoff race.

Though it’s too early to wave the white flag on the 2022 season, Bears insider Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune believes if the team has a rough of things in its next four games — at Minnesota, vs. Washington, at New England, and at Dallas — they could be in a position to be aggressive at the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 1.

“Unless the Bears are in the race for a playoff spot near the end of October, what would be the point of being an aggressive buyer in the trade market?” Biggs said in a recent mailbag. “…This is not the season to be an aggressive buyer when it comes to trades. I could see the Bears being an aggressive seller, but I’m not sure who they have to deal. It’s something to keep an eye on the next few weeks.”

So, which Bears players have the highest trade value? Well, it should come as no surprise that most of their trade assets are on the defensive side of the ball.

Defensive end Robert Quinn, linebacker Roquan Smith, and safety Eddie Jackson could be of interest to any team shopping at the deadline.

Quinn ranked second in the NFL last season with 18.5 sacks. He also added 17 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles. Smith, 25, is a two-time second-team All-Pro selection and currently leads the Bears in tackles (46). Jackson, 28, is a two-time Pro Bowler and was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2018. He leads the Bears in interceptions (3), passes defended (3), and forced fumbles (1), and he’s the 11th-best safety in coverage this season, according to Pro Football Focus.
