It’s always different when training camp transitions from shorts and shirts to full pads. The Chicago Bears are reworking a brand new defense and Justin Jones is set to play a critical role. We know that Jones wasn’t originally coming to Chicago and head coach, Matt Eberflus, made a significant phone call to change his mind. But what comes with forgetting an almost-signed deal and joining another squad?

Justin Jones Playing Hard, Chicago Bears’ Defense

Justin Jones met with the media on Wednesday and discussed with reporters how his time in Chicago has been so far. The Bears are only two days into fully-padded practices and they have a lot of work to do in order to come together. But Jones is excited about building that rapport with his defensive teammates.

“That’s probably the most exciting part about training camp, is the fact that we can all grind and get on the same page for the season.”

Jones is joining a historic franchise that prides itself on its defense. Throughout the years and different defensive schemes, the Chicago Bears have always been ferocious on that side of the ball. However, it’s a new age, and with that comes new challenges.

Jones talked about joining the Bears and how they play hard. “Everyone is flying to the ball and being real aggressive,” said Jones. He praised head coach, Matt Eberflus, shortly after that statement and described the culture-building aspect of the offseason.

As Jones finished his conversation with Bears reporters at Halas Hall, he described how he feels like he was born to play the three-technique position. He elaborated by stating he trusts Matt Eberflus.

“If Flus says ‘I think you’ll be a better player or make the scheme better if you play three-technique’ that’s what I’m gonna do… He has everybody’s best interest in mind so I trust him wholeheartedly.”

Trust In Matt Eberflus

Reporters dug in a bit on the previous question and asked why Jones trusts Matt Eberflus so much.

“It’s not more so what I know about him but what his players say about him. And that’s the biggest thing. When it comes to having a new coach and new coaching staff, what do your former players say about you?

Jones’ trust in Matt Eberflus should spread awareness to Chicago Bears fans everywhere that this new regime is priming the organization for greatness. The positivity in the fanbase is thin with the current expectations in place. But the Bears just might surprise everyone and taking a leap of faith with Matt Eberflus is exactly what this team needs.
