Like any prospect, Newton has his flaws. Notably, he lacks the size typically associated with his position and struggles to handle double teams. Nevertheless, throughout his college career, Newton has consistently ranked among the top defensive tackles in college football. Despite his challenges with double-teams, he compensates by excelling in pressuring the quarterback. Given the precedent set by Aaron Donald, where size isn’t always a decisive factor for defensive tackles, Newton can potentially become the next great defensive lineman in the NFL.
Does Jer’Zhan Newton Fit With The Bears Defense?
The Bears have notable needs at pass-rusher and quarterback. While Caleb Williams will likely be their first pick for QB, the Bears could enhance their defense by adding a pass rusher to complement Montez Sweat on the opposite side. Although Jer’Zhan Newton isn’t primarily a pass rusher, it makes a lot of sense to draft Newton at 15.
