As the Chicago Bears continued their rookie minicamp over the weekend, more players met with the media. The Bears selected offensive lineman Braxton Jones 168th overall in the NFL Draft. The 300-pound lineman has strength and an aggressive style that the Bears desperately need.

“Everyone is trying to take someone’s job. You can’t come in and act like you already know everything. I approach the playbook like a rookie and try to master the little things.”

Braxton Jones Is Ready To Compete For A Starting Role With The Chicago Bears

Obviously, not every rookie is going to earn a starting role with their respective teams. Some players get drafted for the wide-open holes but this is a new Chicago Bears regime. First-time GM Ryan Poles knows that more bodies on the field, especially with the offensive line, is crucial to finding success.

The Bears do not have to start all of their rookie offensive linemen in 2022. But having the ability to circulate guys in and out of a rotation is extremely beneficial and could help them stay healthy. Braxton Jones knows this and he’s willing to put in the work to succeed:

“I think the biggest thing is being coachable. It’s very important that your coach knows you understand.”

Braxton Jones is a smart player. He knows what it takes to earn his role and he’s willing to put in the work. He’s studying the playbook hard and learning the terminology, which is different in the NFL as opposed to college.

Jones is well-aware that Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles is a former offensive lineman. He took notice of the type of linemen that Poles was after and they all have similar traits. They have similar body types and can all move quickly and execute the plays. Braxton Jones mentioned that it’s exciting to be a part of something where Poles’ vision is clear.
