Bears QB Justin Fields has his eye set on this NFL record

Following his 95-yard rushing performance in Sunday’s 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields put himself in elite company.

Breaking the Bears franchise record for rushing yards by a QB, Fields finds himself just 206 yards away from Lamar Jackson’s NFL record for single-season rushing yards by a QB — a record Fields admits he didn’t necessarily want.

“I don’t plan on rushing for 1,000 yards every year,” Fields told reporters after Sunday’s game. “It’s an honor and a blessing from God. …I’m already deep into this year, so might as well just try to go get that record. I think I need, what, 206 (yards) with three games left? That’s about 70 yards a game. We’ll see what happens.”

Sunday’s game marked the seventh time this year Fields rushed for 70 or more yards in a game, including a 178-yard performance on Nov. 6 against the Miami Dolphins — an NFL single-game record for a quarterback.

Fields joins Jackson and Michael Vick as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season, and he also became the first QB with 1,000 yards rushing and eight or more touchdowns in a single season in league history, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Through 13 games, Fields has averaged 76.92 yards rushing per contest. He needs just 69 yards rushing per game over the Bears final three outings to break Jackson’s record.
