Bears QB Justin Fields improving via first-team reps ahead of Browns game?

Bears head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace repeatedly said throughout the summer that veteran Andy Dalton was Chicago's starting quarterback ahead of rookie and first-round draft pick Justin Fields. That, however, was before Dalton went down to a left knee injury last Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals that catapulted Fields into the QB1 spot on the depth chart.

Fields has received first-team reps in practice ahead of Sunday's matchup at the Cleveland Browns, and Nagy admitted to reporters Friday he's discovered more about his first-year signal-caller over the past several days.

"We’re learning, too," Nagy explained, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "This week, with him getting all the reps in practice, there’s things that we’re seeing that maybe we didn’t see in the first two weeks because he wasn’t getting those one reps."

That's all well and good, but Fields will need to show improvements against starting defenses beginning this weekend at FirstEnergy Stadium. The 22-year-old completed just six of 13 passes for 60 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception with 31 rushing yards on 10 attempts against the Bengals after Dalton was injured last Sunday.
