Bears reportedly could go up for sale soon due to 'internal strife' in McCaskey family

One of the NFL's oldest franchises could soon hit the open market. 

According to Jim O'Donnell of the Daily Herald, the Chicago Bears could reportedly go up for sale soon due to "internal strife" among members of the McCaskey family, the team's current owners. 

The Bears have been in the Halas family for five generations. Virginia Halas McCaskey, daughter of George Halas, is currently the team's principal owner. 

It's unclear which members of the McCaskey family are feuding over the decision to sell the team. O'Donnell notes that there's belief Virginia McCaskey does not want to sell. She is the oldest and longest-tenured team owner in the NFL.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, real estate tycoon Neil Bluhm and insurance businessman Pat Ryan are the three main suitors for the Bears if the McCaskey family decides to sell, according to O'Donnell. 

Bezos is frequently brought up whenever there is word an NFL team could be sold. He reportedly said a few years ago that he wanted to purchase a franchise. Bluhm and Ryan have a more significant connection to the Bears. Bluhm was born in Chicago and is the owner of several marquee properties in the city, and Ryan already co-owns 19.7 percent of the team. 

The Bears have not won a Super Bowl since 1985, but buyers will undoubtedly be interested in the historic franchise after it drafted Justin Fields as its quarterback of the future.
