The Chicago Bears offseason continues as expected with GM Ryan Poles adding more depth pieces and doing things the way he wants them. The Bears signed offensive lineman Shon Coleman while waiving punter Ryan Winslow.
Shon Coleman
Shon Coleman has had an interesting and tumultuous NFL career. The Cleveland Browns drafted Coleman 76th overall in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He played in 23 games from 2016 to 2017. Shortly before the start of the 2018 season, the Browns traded him to the San Francisco 49ers.
But he didn’t play a single game for the 49ers and then missed the entire 2019 season with a leg injury. Coleman opted out of the pandemic-ridden 2020 season and also missed the 2021 season with an injury.
In January, the Indianapolis Colts signed Shon Coleman but waived him just one week ago. The 6-foot-5, 310 lb offensive lineman hasn’t seen any regular-season NFL action in several years and at age 30, he’s likely a depth piece for the Chicago Bears practice squad.
Ryan Winslow
To make room on the roster, the Chicago Bears waived punter Ryan Winslow. He’s been on three different teams since 2019 and has only appeared in six games. Winslow spent time in Arizona, Washington, and Carolina. He even played in the Alliance of American Football.
It appears the Bears’ rookie punter, Trenton Gill, will be the starter come week one.
