Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears have been busy this offseason. Before NFL free agency officially begins on Wednesday, March 13th, the Bears have reportedly signed two players to one-year contracts and extended another.
Bears Sign Several Players To Contracts
According to NFL Insider, Tom Pelissero, the Bears are signing veteran long snapper, Patrick Scales, to a one-year deal. Scales has been with the Bears for nine years. He played in every game except for the 2015 season when he appeared in only five games and the 2017 season in which he missed entirely due to a knee injury.
Patrick Scales is the Bears' longest-tenured player and will receive approximately $1 million guaranteed in 2024.
The Bears also announced the signing of veteran safety, Tarvarius Moore, and the extension of wide receiver, Collin Johnson.
Tarvarius Moore is a four-year NFL veteran who hasn't played in the league since 2022. The San Francisco 49ers drafted Moore 95th overall in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft. He played in 61 games for the 49ers, missing the 2021 and 2023 seasons entirely.
Finally, the Bears signed wide receiver Collin Johnson to an extension. Johnson, a three-year NFL journeyman, appeared in three games for the Chicago Bears.
He only had one target, which he caught for eleven yards, and only played 40 snaps in 2023 — a massive dropoff from his previous opportunities with the Jacksonville Jaguars (237) and New York Giants (223).
