The Chicago Bears wasted no time on Tuesday morning. The team trimmed its roster down from 85 to 80 well before the league’s 3:00 p.m. CDT deadline yesterday. As a result, the following players received the tough news:
- OT Julien Davenport (released)
- WR Dazz Newsome (waived)
- FB Jake Bargas (waived)
- DT LaCale London (waived)
- CB BoPete Keyes (waived)
The Bears moving on from Dazz Newsome was a little shocking. Newsome was a sixth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft under former GM Ryan Pace. However, he never really got a shot to showcase his talents under the previous regime. Now under the new regime led by GM Ryan Poles, Newsome had his chance. That said, he had a rough go of it during training camp and preseason. So, it’s understandable why the Bears decided to move on.
Nevertheless, the Bears’ situation at the WR position is far from ideal. Therefore, it would not be surprising to see Newsome return on the practice squad. That is, unless some other team sees value in him and brings him onto their roster.
The next roster cut date is next Tuesday, August 30 at 3:00 p.m. CT. The roster go drop from 80 to 53.
