The Bears completed a week of OTA work, have two left and also the full-squad minicamp but still have their two second-round draft picks unsigned.

It's not really an oddity or reason for concern that defensive tackle Gervon Dexter, chosen 53rd overall, and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, the 56th pick, remain unsigned.

Most second-round picks are unsigned.

Only 14 first-rounders are unsigned at this point according to Spotrac.com, but 24 second-round picks haven't signed.

The only second-round pick to sign who was drafted between No. 32 and Stevenson at No. 56 is Cardinals edge rusher B.J. Ojulari, 41st overall.

After Stevenson, the last seven picks in Round 2 have all signed. Giants center John Michael Schmitz was picked 57th overall, right after Stevenson, and agreed to terms on Tuesday.

All of this would be reason for concern if training camp was fast-approaching but it's not.

Last year, after all 32 picks had signed in Round 1 and only a handful of players from Round 3 through Round 7 remained unsigned, there was still one-third of the second-round picks unsigned.

The delay sometimes can be about language in contracts. Last year a big second-round delay occurred when running back Breece Hall received the first three years of his contract fully guaranteed. Then everyone after him was studying or demanding this.

Once a player or two in the group signs, then the rest tend to follow.

Last year the last Bears player to sign was a second-round pick. It was safety Jaquan Brisker.

Brisker signed on the day training camp opened, July 26.

Dexter and the rookie class on Friday attended the Cubs' 9-0 loss to the Reds at Wrigley Field and Dexter joined first-round pick Darnell Wright in throwing out the first pitch.
