Bears WR Allen Robinson reportedly 'unlikely' to sign extension before July 15 deadline

It appears the song remains the same as it pertains to Chicago Bears star wide receiver Allen Robinson. Robinson is on the franchise tag and seemingly isn't close to putting pen to paper on an agreement that would keep him with the Bears through the first half of the decade.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero (h/t Kevin Patra) reports there have been "no substantive talks" between Robinson and the Bears "in months" and that it is "unlikely a long-term deal will get done" before the July 15 deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign extensions.

One shouldn't feel too badly for the 27-year-old one-time Pro Bowler, as he is set to make $17.98 million on the tag for the 2021 season.

Robinson reported to mandatory minicamp in June and later explained he intends to arrive for the start of training camp later this month.

"That’s not in my control," he said of contract discussions at that time. "That is what it is. I’m comfortable with that. Obviously, that’s a possibility. My main focus right now is to continue to get better. . . . I don’t have any updates. That’s out of my control."

While veteran Andy Dalton is Chicago's current QB1, it's possible head coach Matt Nagy wants to see how Robinson plays alongside rookie and first-round draft pick Justin Fields before locking the receiver down on a long-term deal.
